For the AI use case that needs an owner, not another opinion
Hire Forward Deployed Engineers
A forward deployed engineer takes one defined AI use case from wherever it is now to production, working inside your repository, tools and cadence. These engineers are tested on writing the definition of live, shipping through your review process and proving quality on your data. Availability is stated as a confirmed date, never as a bench count.
- A named engineer owns a defined use case until it runs in production
- Remote-embedded, in your repository, tools and cadence
- Ends by thirty days' notice or the review at ninety days
- Profiles typically within two business days
- Replacement Assurance: If an engineer is not the right fit, a replacement from our own team starts within ten business days of your request, at no extra cost
- You interview before placement if you want to
- At least four hours a day inside your core working hours. Two hours plus a daily written handover for the US West Coast
- 14-Day Risk-Free Trial: For your first engineer on a time-and-materials engagement. Up to 14 calendar days or 80 logged working hours, whichever comes first. End within the trial and pay nothing for trial hours. Continue beyond it and those hours are billed at the agreed rate. Unpaid trial work remains ours if you stop
How we evaluate a forward deployed engineer
The tasks, the signals and the first week inside a client's repository, described by the practice lead who governs them.
90 secSample frame · video pending01Published, not promised
The assessment behind every engineer we place.
The bar is published rather than implied: five competencies, the task behind each, and the shortcut that ends a candidacy. Most interviews for this role ask a candidate to talk about AI. This one asks whether they can write a definition of live, merge inside a stranger's review process and prove quality on real data, because that is the job.
What we listen forWhether the engineer can pin down what finished means before writing code.
A client wants an assistant that answers support tickets. Nobody has said how accurate it must be, what it may cost per ticket or what happens when it is wrong. Produce the definition of live.
- What strong sounds like
- Names the workflow, the quality bar, the cost ceiling and the fallback, and gets the technical owner to sign it before building.
- What gives us pause
- Starts prototyping against the vaguest version of the request and treats the definition as something to discover later.

02Who you actually meet
The bench, priced by seniority.
Three seniority tiers, priced honestly, and the engineers who fill each one today. Real names and photos take their place as soon as we can share them, and the standard stays exactly the same.

03How the work runs
Remote-embedded, in your repository, tools and cadence.
The engineer works inside your environment from the first week. This is how the engagement runs, and it is the same for every use case.
| Part of the work | How it runs |
|---|---|
| Where the work happens | In your repository and tools, in your cadence, from day one |
| Who drives the work | The ValueCoders engineer drives the deployment plan and the work on the use case |
| What you provide | Your technical owner supplies access, data and decisions |
| Who governs delivery | A ValueCoders practice lead, through a weekly engineer check-in, a monthly call with you and a structured review |
04The use-case precondition
Three things in place before an engineer is placed.
Forward Deployed Engineering is not sold without a defined use case. These three items are confirmed before profiles are proposed, because without them the first month would be spent scoping rather than shipping.
A named technical owner
Someone on your side with the authority to grant access, share data and make decisions in week one.
A defined use case with an agreed definition of live
The workflow it changes, the quality bar, the cost ceiling and the fallback, written down and signed by both sides.
Week-one access to environment, data and tooling
Repository, environments, data and the tools your team already uses, ready before the engineer's confirmed start date.
- Project Scoping
No defined use case yet? Start with Project Scoping.
Scoping produces the owner, the workflow and the definition of live that this engagement depends on.

05From defined use case to confirmed start
Four steps, each closing on something you can sign.
This process tests whether an engineer can take your specific use case live, not whether they can talk about AI in general. You can stop at any step owing nothing.
Confirm the use case and its owner
We check the three preconditions with you and write the brief around the use case, its definition of live and the access the engineer needs in week one.
A brief your technical owner signsMatch against your stack and cadence
Candidates are screened against your repository, your model provider constraints and your review culture. You see who fits and from when, stated as a confirmed date.
A confirmed date, not an estimateAssess on the published tasks
You may interview any proposed engineer before placement. The framing and evaluation exercises run in the open, so what you see is judgement about your use case, not a rehearsed demo.
An interview you may hold yourselfEmbed, ship and govern
From the first week the engineer drives the deployment plan under practice-lead governance until the use case is live.

06One recommendation, two graduation paths
Forward Deployed Engineering first, then the shape you choose.
There is no model to choose at the start: a defined use case that is not yet live calls for Forward Deployed Engineering. Once it is live, the engagement graduates into one of two shapes or ends by its terms.
- AI Implementation Services
Forward Deployed Engineering
One named engineer, or a pair where the use case spans two disciplines, owning it to production under practice-lead governance. Billed monthly per engineer, with a minimum term.
- Team Extension
Graduate to Team Extension
The use case is live and you keep the engineer on the platform under your own direction, with priorities and reviews on your side.
- Delivery Pods
Graduate to a Delivery Pod
Further use cases or a whole programme are scoped after go-live, and a pod with its own lead carries delivery while you set priorities.
07Straight answers
Asked before a forward deployed engineer is placed.
01Can an offshore engineer be forward deployed?
Yes, because forward deployment is about where the work happens, not where the engineer sits. A named engineer works in your repository, tools and cadence, remote-embedded. A practice lead governs delivery through weekly check-ins and a structured review.
02How do I know the engineer is good enough?
Through two mechanisms, none of them adjectives. The evaluation tasks are published, so you can see exactly what was tested. You may interview any proposed engineer before placement.
03Is this just consulting?
No. Consulting decides what to build and hands you a recommendation. A forward deployed engineer takes a use case that is already defined and ships it to production inside your stack. Advisory work that does not take a use case live is not this engagement.
04What if the use case is not defined yet?
Then the first offer is Project Scoping, not an embedded engineer. Scoping produces the named owner, the workflow and the definition of live this engagement depends on, and profiles follow once those exist.
05Where does the engineer work?
Remote-embedded, in your repository, tools and cadence. The engineer joins the way your team already works, and a practice lead checks in with the engineer every week.
06How does this end?
Either side may give notice, or the structured review closes the engagement once the use case is live. From there most clients graduate: the engineer stays under your direction through Team Extension, or further cases are scoped as a Delivery Pod.
07When can a forward deployed engineer start?
This is a specialist practice, so no start is promised as immediate. Each start is written as a confirmed date, and we treat that date as binding. Real speed after that depends on how quickly week-one access is granted.
08How is a forward deployed engineer priced?
Monthly, per engineer, on this engagement's own band in the rate card, with a minimum term. The figure is confirmed in the proposal once the use case and the composition are agreed; no rate appears on the site.
