Surely Google Docs is not new for us, but those who are unaware about it, let us tell you, Google Docs is a well-known service to manage documents online. You need not exert much to infix Google Docs spreadsheets, forms, presentations and documents in Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3.0, as here in this post we bring you certain steps to save you from the back-breaking task.

Steps are mentioned below:

Step 1: Put a Public Status on the Google Document

Some people often tend to forget to change the Google Docs from private to public. Always remember, before you share Google Docs file, you need to make sure that it is not private otherwise, you will be the only one to see it. To make it public, you need to click the share link at the top of the screen.

Step 2: Choosing the Correct Method

There are two methods through which you can embed Google Docs in Joomla 2.5 or 3.0.

First method: We all know that publishing makes Google Docs available to the world. It makes your Google Doc sheet visible to the whole world. Once you are done with publishing your spreadsheet, document, form or presentation, you would get a URL that you can then share it with anyone you like. Till the time you do not delete your Doc or stop publishing them, your Doc will always be accessible with this URL. You can also make use of iframe to infix the above URL. Managing the width, frame border, length, etc in your Joomla page to make is also possible to make it more appealing. You need to copy the embed code from the box, go to your Joomla article in the edit mode, click on the html tab, select the area where you want the form to be displayed and then paste the code.

Second method: Making use of Embed Google Docs Viewer plugin
( is a plugin that infixes one or more Google Docs Viewers to both your Joomla 2.5 and 3.0 articles. This plugin does not require iframe to provide you with this functionality. Adding this plugin to the article is not a complex job, you just need to add the URL of the document that you are looking forward to embed, and your job is done! You can manage the size, border and width of the document to the full size document. Following are the supported formats: .ppt, .tif, .doc, .xls and .pdf.

After you are done with the installation and publishing of the plugin, go to the article from your Joomla website in the edit mode and type the below mentioned text where you want your text to be appeared to the viewers.

Example: Put the URL of the document that you want to show in place of the “document_url”

Your file might ask for a login to view, specially when your file is saved in a password-protected directory, etc. In this case, the viewer might not be able to open and go through your file. This is what we tried to explain in the initial paragraphs, that your document should be “publicly available”.
